readme / site guide
How to use this site.
Start with the work if you have a minute. The little desktop around these pages offers a few more ways to explore.
Choose a path
- Work →
- Browse the project index. Open a title for the problem, my role, engineering choices, current status, and public links.
- Notes →
- Read longer accounts of the summer work and the decisions behind it.
- Connect
- Email, GitHub, and LinkedIn sit just below my name on every public page. The directory’s connect link also jumps to the contact section.
- Museum of Possible Futures →
- A short pseudo-3D game built from 2D wall slices and sprites. Use arrow keys to walk and turn, Z to inspect, and X to open your field guide.
The desktop controls
Reading view opens first. Choose “Explore desktop” in the window title bar for a second way to browse: a wallpaper, clickable desktop icons, and movable windows. “Reading view” in the top bar returns to the full portfolio.
The desktop icons open the portfolio, work, notes, museum game, file search, contact links, appearance control, and help with one click. The dock at the bottom is a second toolbox:
- Portfolio
- Returns to the top and restores the main window after you close or minimize it. The small mark beneath its dock icon shows when it is open or minimized.
- Files
- Searches projects, notes, pages, and contact links. You can also press ⌘ K or Ctrl K.
- Now
- Shows a short update on what I’m working on, with a way to copy my email.
- Surprise
- Opens a random project or note when you feel like wandering.
- Help
- Opens a small reference for shortcuts, window movement, and appearance settings.
On a wide screen, hover over the glass buttons to see their symbols: close, minimize, and zoom. Double click the main title bar to zoom it too.
Pointers, keys, and phones
Drag the main window or a smaller window by its title bar. With a bar focused, arrow keys move its window; hold Shift for larger steps. Press Esc to close the front smaller window or ? to open Help.
On a phone, the desktop icons form a grid and smaller windows become sheets above the bottom dock. The page links and dock buttons work by touch. Keyboard users can also start with the “Skip to content” link.
“Our little quest” is a private corner of the site and asks for an unlock before it opens.
